How we run birthdays
Birthdays are the most common thing we do and the least complicated. Most are at home: a backyard, a rooftop, a garage with the door up. We arrive ahead of your guests, set up out of the way of wherever people will actually stand, and run it from there. You do not need to supply anything — no power, no water, no furniture.
The part people underestimate is the pack-out. Coals, ash, water and used hoses are a genuinely unpleasant thing to deal with at one in the morning, and it all leaves with us. The space looks the way it did before we arrived, which on a birthday at your own house is most of the value.
Nine guests per hookah is the ratio that stops a queue forming, so a party of forty is usually five. That is also our minimum booking, which makes most house birthdays exactly 5 hookahs at $65 each. Up to three flavours can go in one hookah at a time and your attendant changes them as often as anyone asks.
Birthdays questions
Asked here specifically.
Can you set up in a backyard or garage?
A backyard, yes, always. A garage works with the door up — that counts as open-sided and it is the setup we use most through the colder months. Fully enclosed indoor rooms are prohibited under the Smoke-Free Ontario Act regardless of whose house it is.
There will be under-19s at the party. Is that a problem?
Not in itself. The rule is that the hookah area is one they stay out of, not that they cannot be at the event. We place the station accordingly when we set up and the attendant checks ID for anyone using it. It is 19+ in Ontario for herbal shisha exactly as for tobacco.
How late can you stay?
As late as you want to book. The rate covers a three-hour event and additional hours are charged per hookah per hour, so a long night is a bigger number rather than a different conversation. We do run quieter after eleven — coal work away from the seating, no noise of our own.
